Federal Skilled Worker

Candidates must meet all the below minimum requirements:

 

  • Skilled Work Experience 

    • Should have worked in one of below National Occupational Classification (NOC) job groups:

      • Managerial jobs (skill type 0)

      • Professional jobs (skill level A)

      • Technical jobs and skilled trades (skill level B)

 

Skilled work experience must be

  • in the same type of job as the job to be used for immigration application 

  • within the last 10 years

  • Should be paid work. I.e paid wages or earned commission. Note that volunteer work or unpaid internships will not be considered. 

  • at least 1 year of continuous work or 1,560 hours total (30 hours per week) in following ways

    • full-time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months

    • equal amount in part-time work: i.e 15 hours/week for 24 months. Can be many part-time jobs

    • full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job

  • Language ability

    • approved language tests in English or French for writing, reading, listening, speaking

    • minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all 4 abilities

    • Language tests are valid for 2 years after the date of the test result and must be valid on the day of application for permanent residence.

  • Education requirements. 

    • Must have a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian secondary institution (high school) or post-secondary institution

    • For a foreign education, must have 

      • a completed credential and 

      • an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for immigration purposes from a designated organization showing that education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian secondary institution (high school) or post-secondary institution

Proof of funds

  • Must show enough money for candidate and their family to settle in Canada, unless are currently able to legally work in Canada or have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada

 

Selection factors:

Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements will then be assessed based on below factors against a total score of 100. The current pass mark is 67 points

  • Age (maximum 12 points)

  • Education (maximum 25 points)

  • Work experience (maximum 15 points)

  • Have a valid job offer (maximum 10 points)

  • English and/or French language skills (maximum 28 points)

  • Adaptability (maximum 10 points)
